India finishes Sri lankan series with No.2 spot in ICC ODI Rankings

India defeated Sri Lanka by 20 runs in the final one-dayer at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday to win the series 4-1 ,Meanwhile India jumped to 2nd spot in ICC ODI rankings.

Opting to bat first, India put up a score of 294 for seven in 50 0vers with opener Gautam Gambhir playing the role of an anchor, scoring an impressive 88 runs. Manoj Tiwary (65) and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (58) chipped in with significant half-centuries.

It has been a tough task for Sri Lanka,as they were playing without their two best batsmen, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.The inexperienced Sri Lankan batsmen did well and at one point the home team was favorites to win the match. But Indian bowlers made a strong comeback to halt the Sri Lankan run chase.

Irfan Pathan claimed five wickets and contributed valuable 29 runs,irfan was declared as the man of the match for his five wicket haul and 29 runs with the bat.

Vice captain Virat Kohli, who scored 296 runs at the average of 74, was selected as the the Player of the series and Raina elected as the coolest Player of the series.
